I have two roo's,he is the oldest I'm still kinda waiting for both to mature more before I decide. I suspected on both of problems you stated. until I find better he will have to work.

I have a cockbird from splitsocket right now over my gray bantam shamo hen, got two babies hatched and 15 more in bator

....split socket has NICE birds...

Ben watching TLC peep are buying 5 an 600 dollor worth of food for just a few buck's ..Had a guy call that went to Durant auction he said stuff was cheap ther was about any breed you could think of some guy brot in some NICE big show Brahma's i think his name was Steve not for sure...
He said he bot about 40 muskcovey duck's an they had a ton of ROO'S....

they can be so funny- their chosen nest spot is under the front porch.... so it makes it interesting - just making sure he knows we are going in the door, not to the eggs- tonite he decided to sleep by the pond instead of with her and the nest- not sure why he does that
