Hey everyone!

Have some very proud parent boosting to do. My daughter is graduating with her associates on May 6th and hopefully transferring to OU to the psychology program. I am so proud of her!

For me it is 5 weeks and 4 days til the end of the school year. Now if I can just get through this next three weeks of testing, it will be down hill from there. I am looking forward to a week or two off before I start teaching summer school.

Hope everyone is doing fabulously.
Looking forward to POOPS! Still need to call and book a room. I have been so busy I totally forgot to do that.

Speaking of roos, I have a couple of black ameraucana and a wheaten ee roo that will be needing a home soon. They are about 6 weeks old. Keeping the white ameraucana roo for my rumpless hen Angel. Think his name is going to be Alexander even though he is really sweet. I also have a barred EE rooster I need to find a home. Bart has good barring but I really have too many roosters and he just does not seem to get along with anyone. I believe he is just under a year old. Lastly I have a black cochin/ameraucana x roo. Looks like a black favorelle but has the dark feet like the americana. Has the cochin red comb though. He is small and very friendly.

Okay enough of trying to off load roos.

My poor beardless blue ee hen is sitting on about 20 eggs right now. Good thing she is huge and speads out real well.

She gets mad at me everytime I go out there and check the eggs. She is a good incubator though and will let her hatch out these batch, give her a couple to raise then let one of the other hens go broody. Hoping not to have to fire up the incubator this year, just going to use broodies. Its not like I do have plenty. hehehe

Not sure if I am going to make the auctions Saturday. Just have to wait and see. I sure miss everyone a bunch.

Well it is time to go to bed. Busy day tomorrow! Night!

Five. Like I needed a reason to get chicks. Seriously, I won't have room for them. But dang it, they are kind of cute when they're only a day old...I got a black, two buffs, a partridge (I think - it's chocolate-colored), and one that I don't know what it will look like.

I blame NNbreeder. If he didn't talk them up so much I wouldn't know so much about them - all of these have bowties and look like cute little Donald Trumps.

I will never be able to look at another NN chick without thinking of that analogy. Thanks

I don't plan to have hatching eggs there. So far, I don't sell hatching eggs.

Okay - thank you Betsy!

I don't have much luck hatching guinea eggs or getting keets to live, so how about some started guineas in cool colors?

we make our own syrup- 1 c sugar to 4 c water- and one feeder we put a good distance from the others to feed the bees- and wasps- sometimes it works, they go over there with a few strays every now and then at the other feeders

thanks, i've been trying to get her to mix her own, but she likes the ease if the mix. i told her about the extra feeder for the bees (when i was trying to find info that was the number one thing i found), and she's not sure if she wants to do that. told her she could just stick it beside the house where there's not windows lol

I'll have to ask my parents - they're for them, and so far they've insisted they'd rather hatch - but if I can't find eggs I'll check again. I think once they get past their processing week (end of May) they'll have more room and would consider keets.

last winter I bought what I was told was 1 rooster and 4 pullets(From someone who has had chickens awhile). It was late and the light was fading so I mostly took their word for it. A month later I noticed he was taller and his comb was bigger, figured him for a cockerel then. He looks like he might be better colored than the other one of that breed so he is still around.

I think some roosters take longer to mature than others. I periodically take my extra roos to Michael and lo and behold, I saw another roo in the laying flock today. Either I didn't recognize it as a roo until after all the competition was removed, or someone is tossing roos over the fence into my backyard.

I had 6 mille fleur chicks hatch during the snow. I could tell that two were ovbiously roos at about a month. In the last two weeks or so two more have decided to be roos too! My first 5 had only 1 roo so I am still not yet roo rich and pullet poor.

i guess i'd better head to bed. night everyone. i hope to get to read more tomorrow. been hurting off and on today. hard to sit in a chair very long. see everyone tomorrow

it would help to see a full body shot- she may surprise you- at a year old, even with the feathers- i am leaning to a hen- i got 3 'pullets' from poops a couple years ago- the guy(not saying who- but he knows!
smack.gif
)insisted they were ALL pullets...... ummmm... 2 of the three were roos!
th.gif
so you really can't be sure- but at a year old yours needs to show more wattle and comb in my opinion.. and i really am just shooting in the dark!
