P&B usually the drakes have a lot more red than the femal;es. The feathers will actually grow a ring around the eyes of most hens but on males its mostly re knobby skin. The drakes are usually almost twice as big,and their feet and legs will be much bigger, the hens haveing more dainty feet and legs!

I'm not sure where your town is......Just a couple of thoughts. Here the birds like to roost in our large cedar tree, don't know if it is the same for pine. Also my inlaws pine tree's seem to drop alot of limbs that could be a problem if you have a covered run. These are just thing to think about because my coop & run are under tree's too & with the ice storms we have had in the past those have been things that have happened to me.

Sooner, she is maybe 5 miles west of us... And other than the Pines breaking in ice there really is no issue with placing the coops under the pine, however they will not get as much fresh greens since very few things will grow under them.

So does that mean that Sooner is a neighbor of ours?

I saw a pair of canadaian /tame goose crosses at the sale last weekend. Recon they will be mules? I'm afarid our Elkton sale my get raided and shut down sometime. They allow wood ducks and bob whites to be sold without documentation! Not for sure on Ky laws but every other state I have been in its illegal to sell wild species without documentaion or permits.

I hate to admit how much time I have spent just looking at the muscoveys, trying to figure out gender. I agree that when you compare them side by side, the hens do generally have thinner legs and a daintier head. My problem is trying to figure them out in the dark, when I am generally catching them to take to the flea mkt. Then, the sound is the better indicator than the shape or size.

Actually, Sooner is in Muskogee. I think Carl/Stephanie was trying to answer Sooner's question about your location.

i have 3 hen ducks to 1 drake and they are going bald... poor little things- so did they ever settle the issue of legalities of muscovies?

Yes, the federal law that would have prohibited the sale of muscovey ducks and the keeping of muscoveys except for food, was repealed last year. The federal govt didn't have any idea there were so many hobby folks with muscoveys. They were trying to prevent them from being released into the wild, since that has happened in some southern states and it has upset the balance with native species due to cross breeding.

ok, thats good- they facinate me with their 'head gear'

i also am looking for a female khaki, my little suzyQ wanders around my herself most of the time- all the other ducks are white- maybe she is lonely for more khaki's?

nite guys- off to dreamland

Post pics of the mules if there are any, I'm afraid our only local sale will get shut down too Texas Animal Health Commission posted a warning to everyone about selling any birds without proper permits including npip and I'm afraid too many people will just quit going not knowing how simple it is to keep up with the laws.

Getting sleepy and my shoulder and arm are hurting from bucking hay for the horses today...
