Glad to see you back among the computer enabled.
I am trying something new - incubating in a still incubator without turning the eggs, but with the eggs straight up and down in egg holders. We will see what happens. The rest of the eggs I set are under broody hens.

I tend to agree with the other GQF owners, mine is at least 20 years old and I did an overhaul this year new wafers and a 5 gallon water resivoir. It is really reliable and the hatches have been great. I also think it it the easiest to control humidity in although I have never used a Brinsea. I bought my GQF cabinet used for $150 at that price who could complain. The next add on will be the clear acrylic door. If you look around and wait you can find them used and save a bundle they last forever and when a part does go bad you can fix them easily and for a fair price most the time. If you play your cards right you could get a bator and a hatcher used for the price of a new bator alone. If you decide to build one contact Al he will tell you what will work and what won't, his works great.

Hello, my name is Amy and I have a chicken addiction. (The circle of onlookers say, "Hi Amy")

It doesn't matter if I go to a swap, an auction, a fellow chicken owners home or a feed store, I always come home with chickens! It doesn't matter what age they are, what gender, what breed or even if I know the breed! I started this little adventure about 6 weeks ago. Needless to say with todays additions I am now at 44 chickens or chicks

So today I came home with 7 new additions, all supposed to be pullets, but I have absolutely NO idea what they are. All I know is that I don't currently have any that look like they do

Want to help me identify?

Chick 1 (This one is pretty much solid black except some yellow on the belly and little white on the wings)

Now if one of you could kindly point me in the direction of a good 12 step program?

Can anyone help me with my silkie questions? I tried the silkie thread with no luck at all yet, this thread is a lot more active....and im partial to okies anyhoo...

Okay my only two roosters are silkies, very very tame, handled several times a day. They are nearly 3 mo old. (hens are same age, too) They still arent crowing yet, so im thinking they are late bloomers. I live in city limits and my neighbors have really been enjoying watching my flock, and I want it to stay that way. They actually said they cant wait to get a cock-a-doodle-do in the morning lol, but im still hoping my boys wont be as loud as the other standard size breeds ive had.

So, when silkies crow (never had a silkie roo before) is it and quieter compared to other breeds?

When they mature are less agressive than other breeds?

They are in a 12' x12' run with a 4' x 5' coop with 5 girls (rir, ameracauna, 2 silkies, polish) will this be enough room for the two roos? So far ive been adding on as they grow. I have been keeping the run big enough to make sure theres no way they can trample the grass, i want them to have some yard to scratch and investigate. Dont want bored over crowded birds...

Should I add a few more silkie hens for the roos or will 5 be enough?

And, at what age do the silkie hens start getting broody?
