JJust had my first chick hatch in my new incubotor day 19 most of what I put in it did not candle goo on day 8, some were a eggs were a few weeks old. It was a test run, put more eggs in on sat. when I moved these eggs to the bottom of bator.

okladoo thanks for cheaching in on me i have been verry bussy with dustins last show of the year and chupps in the same week and man im tyred and sore today and i still have to work my 12hr shift at work

but on the bright side i did verrrrrrrrrrry well at the auction again birds on average was selling low and i was a littel worred but when they got to mine they sold HIGH 4 lite sussexs roos that where 5 1/2 mounths old sold for 40.00$ a pice

and 2 AR hens for 32.00$ a pice

a blue red OEGB hen sold for 21.00$ ex ex ex not to bor with # s

dustin did well at the show the juge did not know what a coronation sussexs was

but he said they where verry verry pritty and that he liked them so

If using a Sportsman, new eggs go in the top tray. second week they move down one slot and so forth. Also when candling I swap my eggs and change their position in the rack paying attention to the fullness of the eggs. If fuller they are devoloping faster and need to be put in a place where the slower eggs were.

Another trick has to do with storage of eggs. If storing eggs to get a full tray store them in the fridge, as long as they don't freeze they will be fine. Warm them to room temp before adding to the bator or else they may sweat and introduce bacteria to the eggs. An egg starts to devolop at around 80 deg. and keeping them in the fridge will put them in suspended animation till it is time to set them.

Ok, so, wow!! I posted a question on the Serama thread about how much to charge for 4-6 week old chicks. The reply was $20-25. I don't think I would charge that, heck, I wouldn't pay that. The price that I quoted is what I will charge.

Oh and I forgot to add that if using a styrofoam tabletop the eggs closest to the tuirner motor and directly under the heating element will hatch first so it is very important to swap them around and I did it daily. Evened out my hatches.

The first time I did the fridge trick the eggs started hatching exactly 21 days and nearly to the hour from when they were set and in an hour the hatch was finished.

Les : I have known that storing egg's in the fridge at 50-55 degrees is best if you plan to hatch those fridge eggs. What is your take on that ??. I know if not in the fridge storing at 70 degrees is Ok too.
