Oh, I just don't know... I should really hold old out for the birds on my list, since my space is limited... And 5-6 is alot of birds!

Here is some advice from someone who has been down the road to the chickenhouse before. Find one or two breeds you like and try to build on those. I have found it is better to start with quality adults (if you can find them) and then hatch your own fresh eggs. If you start with hatching eggs it will be almost a year before you have any birds to raise from that stock.
Unless you are very good and lucky you will have some losses and setbacks.
I know money can be tight but I think you would be better off in the long run to start with adults.
Instant gratification on having some birds you want and then you can have hatching eggs at the same time.
If you want some different birds just for eye candy you can add just a few of those as you like.
I once had over 20 breeds and it was a nightmare trying to keep it all straight. I am going to concentrate on two maybe three at the most this year.

Monty, thanks for the advice, and I completely agree. Its Okie's fault, she's trying to trick me!

I just can't afford $60 birds.

If I weren't trying to finish college and get married, you bet I'd buy every one of those birds on my list from your friend!

If I ever get Ameraucanas, I will get grown birds. But the banties I may just hatch. My Dark Brahmas really are turning out to meet the Standard, and they were rescue birds! I guess I will just go with the flow.

Luvz - Are you buying from Monty's friend? What are you buying? I'm so exicted/jealous!

I came home empty handed, I really wanted his banty br, but just could not spend that much to get them when we are trying to catch up from Christmas. However my husband has a friend at work that he is going to talk to about the birds he has the $$ and I can always nag for eggs.

Did you try to make him an offer? He told me he would negotiate with people who came to see the birds. I'm not a Game person, but out of curiosity, what was he asking? My dad started talking like he wanted to buy the Wood ducks, but I mentioned my wedding later, and he changed his mind.
