I just posted pics of my 1903 Old Trusty Incubator on here...and found your post! LOL Mine has same container on the side...and i am very curious how they heated these! I am thinking it had to be some kind of fuel oil or oil, similar to what the amish use for their lamps? These are soooo neat though!!!
