Old Busy Body needed something to complain about, and my roosters are it.

I think there are people out there so focused on their own lives and problems that they really don't think their actions have direct reactions. He is so focused on his comfort, security, etc that he makes no considerations for others. It's called tolerance and he has none, because he is selfish.

In his haste to find a more peaceful neighborhood by picking on one neighbor, he has set himself up for a motherload of misery in that neighborhood. And the irony of it all is that he wants chickens. Dumb, Dumb, Dumb.

You CAN'T be friends with some one like that. If you have a normal brain. It just wouldn't work out --even if you tried. He's obviously not out to make friends is he?

He just doesn't even see what he has done, either. He tries to act all friendly. I'm biting my tongue every time. I turn my face away from him and walk the other direction. He hurt my feelings, didn't even give me a chance to change something that inconvenienced him, and then he acts like we are all neighborly. I'm pretty sure he has a screw loose.

Very hurtful to be singled out by neighbors for having a hobby that you love. And then to have it thrown up in your face with "legalities" and violations. I'd definitely be hurt by it. Can't imagine....Oh, he most definitely does have a screw loose. He acted in the moment and didn't think it all through...that's for sure. Just remember you are not the villian in this scenario-- this man owes you an apology in my book. Just saying....

And instead of fighting it which I think you had some basis and breathing room to fight it-- you WERE a good neighbor to him by getting rid of that precious source of noise that most likely made you and majority of your neighbors smile. Of course I'm prejudiced but I smile when I hear a rooster crow. All is right in my world when I get to hear that noise.

Best wishes to you Mini.

I am still confused how you can legally have chickens, but one complaint and they start throwing tickets at you. It doesn't make sense. Seems like he should have checked the ordinances BEFORE he purchased a house there. If he did not want to hear chickens he should have bought in an area where chickens are not allowed! I think they should have told him that the ordinances allow for chickens and do not exclude roosters so there isnt anything they can do.

Me, being an old bitty, would increase my herd to the 15 chick limit, show her grouchy old butt. But that is just me.

I'm just going to make sure every little noise violation from his plot is reported. In the meantime, Abe now lives with a sweet granny person with 21 of his own hens, and Rudy is going to a 4-H house and they are going to take one of my hens from chicken scratch and let me have eggs now and then. All is well, except I just noticed my old BCM hen is cuddling up to him.

she will miss him!
I would take him if I lived in Oregon

When we lived in San Jose, our neighbors behind us (their home is in foreclosure) would begin work in their backyard at 6 a.m. in preparation for a family party, birthdays, Cinco De Mayo...whatever. They would nail 2x4's against our shared fence, and put up tarps. Come night time, about 100 people would be out there, drinking, dancing, screaming kids, loud conversations...and then a mariachi band would show up, all dressed in traditional garb, looking like the label on a bottle of hot sauce, and begin to play at 90 decibels. Ay, ay, ay ay....This would go on until 2 or 3 in the morning sometimes...20 feet from the back of our house. And some people get upset over a few clucking hens a hundred yards down the road. Insane. P.S. they had illegal chickens as well, four poor hens cooped up in a 2x3 foot cage. Would hear them when they laid an egg. The other next door neighbor to our south had roosters...well, that didn't last long. Someone turned them in. Wasn't me...I would have turned them in for having over 20 people living in that house! They were putting it on the market to sell, and when my neighbor, who was a realtor, checked it out (she is Chinese-American, and speaks several dialects) she told us about the horror stories she saw...mattresses throughout the house and garage, which they had converted illegally into living quarters (water heater in there, no plumbing facilities), dirty dishes, four rice cookers on the counter caked with burned rice, general filth...glad to be gone. Sad thing about that was a nice young couple bought this wreck of a house, refurbished the entire kitchen, but before they could move in someone came in (no forced entry, probably hadn't changed the locks) and totally destroyed the kitchen with a sledge hammer in the early morning...cabinets, appliances...my son heard it, but thought they had some contractors in there. Sure it was the previous owners, but it couldn't be proved.
