Old Dogs Chat

Dogs will become depressed when another dog goes. So if possible I like for my remaining dogs to see and sniff the one if possible. I have had a few dogs put to sleep here at home, and 2 have passed on their own unexpectedly. My oldest dog lost her whole pack that she had grown up with, she was the youngest at one time. It took her a few years to come out of her funk, probably just as long as it took me. She was very bonded to my last boxer, and so was I.

I raised Tervuren for 34 years many over those years.. I had 4 litters in those years
knowing where all of them where and are my last died at 13 he was the reincarnation of his Grandmother I loved him dearly this is him and his Mother..I lost his mother due to the stupidity of another she was 16 then

My oldest dog right now is a White German Shepherd, she is 14, she has horrible hearing, bad eyesight, and bad arthritis. Also, I have discovered two large lumps on her chest that I assume are tumors. She has also lost control of her bowel movements and poops all over the house. Just last spring she was fine, she has aged very fast and I do not think she will be around much longer. She can't go on walks anymore because she is to weak and just gives up mid walk and then I need to carry her back to the house.

Her name is Olga, she was my parents first breeding dog and she has kids, grandkids, great grandkids, and great great grandkids. We have one of her sons, Max, one of her grandsons, Boomerang, and one of her great grand sons, Ozzy. She spends most of the day laying in our laundry room because she struggles to get up the stairs and into the bedrooms also it is nice and cool in the laundry room and right by the dog door. Her mate, George, died 4 years ago from spinal issues. Olga was my first dog but I have had a lot of other dogs and several of them have died. One of my dogs was hit by a car and then my family got "scammed" by another breeder.

My parents bought a female German White from a breeder up North, it cost over $6,000 for the dog and breeding rights, it turns out she had a heart murmur that was extremely bad and the vet said it was genetic so we could not breed her, we then gave her away because she was only expected to live 2 years, she is still alive and 4 now but it was hard to give up a dog that I was already attached to. We complained to the breeder and he said the parent dogs did not have heart problems and it was just random that she did, he then gave us a new dog for free. My mom told him she was going to name the dog spirit and he said "that is a bad idea, it will bring bad luck," he was already making up excuses for why this one was also deformed. Well anyways, Spirit died from heart failure a year later and we were never refunded. It was really hard for me to have spent so much time training, raising, and bonding with two dogs and then I had to give one away and the other died, it is always very sad when a dog dies and I have never forgotten any of my old dogs.

This is not an old dog story but something that happened to my two month old puppy and it gave me a shock.
my puppy Russell went in to a naboring horse field and started barking at the horses.
The horses stampeded towards him and he just stood there and looked at them, then one of the horses came over and stood on him and he flopped down and lay there quivering I went over and picked him up and he was dead:hit:hit:hit:hitMy poor dog he was a lovely Jack Russell terrier his brother loved him.

I am sorry this happened

This is huck, 18 year old 50 pound beagle. He was diagnosed with heartworms last year but the treatment was supposedly painful and uncomfortable and not a good probability he could even survive it. So he since has been pampered and watched. He still acts like a puppy at dinner time and loves attention anytime. He is slow moving most of the time but still has more good days than bad. When that changes the vet will be called. Until them he gets anything he wants. He still wants to bark at rabbits and birds and still howls with his baritone voice. My grown grandkids still enjoy their old buddy who entertained them for years. _20170920_171733.jpg

You are so fortunate to have raised multiple generations. We thought one day Sunshine would have pups and we'd always have a little Sunshine in our lives generation after generation, but our living situation was never such that we could raise pups. Now we talk of saving a hairball and saving our pennies and one day we will clone her! The thought makes us smile, though we would never do such a thing even if it was more realistic.

I understand. Our walks are short, if we take them at all, and we turn around when the dog won't walk forward anymore. We feed glucosamine and fish oil for years and I really think it helps their joints and the fish oil really helps their skin and coat. I have cleaned pee off the floor almost every day this week. Sunshine's nickname used to be iron bladder because if she held it 15 hours she was unphased, now she doesn't last the night or the day while I'm at work :( I know something is wrong, but I don't want the vet to tell us how little time we have.) It doesn't change anything. We still live each day as best we can. We only go upstairs one time daily for bed and we have to help support her or carry her. It is ok. Sleeping by the bed is important. We can accommodate this :)
