Old Dogs Chat

Thank you. I have told a few friends that I would be surprised if she makes it through summer. I knew in my heart she was not ok (even though most days she seems fine and no one believes me). Now that the vet has confirmed though my heart is breaking all over again. It's more official, not just a hunch.

We have one English Mastiff mix who is 12, which is very old for her breed. We got a purebred English Mastiff puppy about 6 months ago, knowing the loss is coming in the next years. I hope the younger dog can share in grief with us when her sister leaves, and also that we can find comfort in her still being there to pat and weigh down the foot of the bed. The thought of losing Lola is almost unbearable. She has raised five human babies with us and is the best dog in the world.

Beautiful girls there :love

Our girl grieved with us when we lost our boy. It took a couple weeks for her to come out of her funk, but we shared a lot of love. Wasn't really easier, but having her here did help a ton...I wasn't lonely.

I am sure you are seeing this, but a young dog (also constant companion) can really help an older dog stay young at heart.
