I feed my horses black oil sunflower seeds for the Omega-3s - both have fantastically shiny, dappled coats (and it sure isn't due to my grooming skills

I'd like to add the BOSS to the cracked oats I've been giving to my 13wk old pullets as occasional scratch. They seem fine with eating the oats, so I was wondering if they can handle the sunflower seeds - hulls & all.
I give them chick grit too.
So:
BOSS ok for the girls?

Hi. Don't have an answer for you. Do want to say I offered BOSS to my 4 month old chickens yesterday after reading that they would consider it a wonderful treat. They were hungry, so I though I would give them a few to enjoy while I made their dinner.
I put the seeds down expecting the great glee response I usually get when I give a treat. The girls ran right over, then, jumped back and let out a collective sound of great disappointment! I don't know if they have to learn to like it or if they are too young. I can tell you they have no interest in BOSS whatsoever.

I've been feeding it to my kids (15-16 weeks) for a while now... my BOSS is about 1/2 the size of my pinkie nail and I feed it as scratch to get them to churn up their deep litter bedding. Mine seemed to like it just fine. I also make sure they have grit available.

Mine did the same at first. I usually give a handful of boss and a handful of scratch. They eat the scratch first but eventually get to the BOSS. It takes them a while to figure out it's food. I have the same problem with most thing i introduce new to them. Good Luck

I once had a couple of parrots in a pawnshop I owned.

I fed them a lot of sunflower seeds.

They were super-hyperactive! Drove this poor country-boy NUTS!

I got rid of the screamin' parrots!

Later, a fella that raised birds told me that the sunflower seeds were what made 'em "hyper-active".

I dunno. But, I do know that if'n I give my chickens some sunflower seeds...that ole rooster, Oro Blanco de Gallo, would start crowin' DOUBLE-TIME !
