How young can chicks be before sexing by wattles and combs? I have a bunch of different ages I want opinions on, and the youngest are *I think* a little over 2 weeks, but one or two already might be getting red on their combs

Girls wont turn red until closer to laying. Anything before 12 weeks I would consider a cockerel.

Mine were about three-four weeks old before I got even close to telling. Eight-twelve weeks until I was sure.

6-8wks 2wks is too little

If you're are getting red at 2 weeks then most likely a cockerel

That's what I was worried about. I guess I'm just too excited to just sit and wait patiently. I have a few from that litter with no red at all, thankfully

I'll have to convince my mom to keep one of the chicks of it's a male. She already hates the dad, and the chick is even more mixed than he is, lol
