Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Yeah! Finally! I'm so happy for her and you!

Did want to say for those who knew about my lil hen Issabelle who sat for 21 days on infertile eggs, has now hatched after 42 days of sitting 2 lil bantam chicks. So proud of her. Will get pics later. The one chick had popped the top off the egg but was still in the bottom half the other was completely out.

Smokey has 1 silkie hatched and a pip on another egg that I saw when I checked her status after dinner. I couldn't raise her up to check better - she kept growling at me. So I'll leave her alone and check again later tonight.

Topsy hasn't any hatches that I could see and I couldn't see any pips either - but she was pretty smooshed down and growling too - so I don't want to risk hurting the chicks or myself. I will check on her too.

Tomorrow is supposed to be hatch day - so these little ones are coming early.

The kids have swim practice tonight so they won't get home until dark - I hope I can see what's happening out there without too much disturbing the chicks. I have to get a waterer with rocks out there for both of them - they have food, but I removed the waterers because they kept getting so messy.

Yeah!!!!

If you want to sell the chicks determine when you want to sell them or when you get a buyer then take them, they will pitch a fit no matter what you do unless you wait till mama is through raising them at anywhere from 4-6 weeks then take them. Then when she is through raising them or you take them about 2or so weeks later she will start to lay again. Good luck
Thanks. I sold them. They threw a fit. Now they seem to be getting back to normal. Still calling for the chicks from time to time but they will be ok. Thanks for the info.
