X2 again and Congrats.Beautiful momma and such cutie pie chicks!
I'm keeping them 2 mamas and chicks apart for a while. I think baby will be okay, I am so thankful I was out there when it happened so I was able to get to them before she really got a hold of it, she has a very small wound on her back where her wings are attached. I sprayed some Veterycin on her and she scooted right back under mama. Now I have 2 more hens due to hatch this next week I sure hope things have settled down by then. One of the hens is lowest on pecking order so no telling what will come of this. Hopefully nothingI'm sorry she got attacked. I hope the baby will be fine.
Well Smokey attacks Topsy every chance she gets, but she hasn't attacked the babies thankfully. I don't know what, if anything, Topsy did when Smokey was out and about with her last brood of chicks who are now 12 weeks old, but whatever it was Smokey hasn't forgotten. The other pullets walk around and Smokey doesn't do anything, but if Topsy comes around BAM Smokey's on her like flies on poop!
Maybe it's because Topsy is lowest in the pecking order of the older pullets and Smokey is 2nd from the top. It can get pretty brutal. And remember that my cockerel Foghorn, who has since been rehomed, attacked that one Wellie and flung it down. So weird chicken drama is not out of the realm of possibilities.
Sunny,
So true!! Sometimes I just look around in amazement and the things He created!!
Ok had to share!! Went out to lock everyone up and refill the feeders for in the morning.
Well apparently Henriettas chicks were hungry so the little ones were hanging their heads out of the nest and then all of a sudden momma gets up and they all hop out and fly straight off the perch! These little chicks are TOUGH! No sissy chicks around my barnyard apparently!

I LOVE watching her and her chicks! I agree with the above posts! I have said it before and will say it again! It never ceases to amaze me how the Lord created his littlest creatures to be so tough yet so wonderfully made!
