Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Now there are 7!! If you look closely, you can see a little yellow one behind the black ones. She's hard to see against the hay.

Chicken math has struck again, though. I ordered 15 chicks (3 weeks old now) when mamma decided to sit on eggs. I couldn't turn her down, so here we are at 34 chickens of all ages!!!!

Well Scarlet hatched 2 adorable chicks, I didn't try to take a pic just left them be today, we're going to have company for a couple of days so I probably won't get a pic posted till wed. but I'm sure ya'll will be hatching up a storm while I am away. LOL my only concern and I never have had it before is someone attacked Ebbies chick last friday and killed it, It wasn't the hen that has the other chicks that had been fighting with Ebbie because I had them separated by fence and gate. But I don't know who it was and am going to be very nervous about Scarlet bringing her 2 outside when she is ready. I'll have to probably spend alot of time outside till I'm sure everyone leaves her and chicks alone. And then theres Macey who was lowest on the Pecking order till the EE's came but I will be concerned for her chicks safety too. Guess I'll be sitting in my chair outside for awhile till things settle down some.

'heaven's to Betsy' as my grandma used to say --- I have 2 broodies!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't believe it --- finally!!!!!!!! The little black cornish is sitting tight from yesterday and still on their this morning. Then one of my old hens -- not sure but think she is part or full Australorp. I will be moving them tonight into a broody box but think I will wait a day to make sure they are still sitting and then will replace their eggs with fertile guinea eggs. Wish I had more but the guineas aren't cooperating! I have 3 guinea hens and get only one egg a day out of the 3. But maybe I will get one today and tomorrow and that will give me 11 eggs for the two broodies.
