Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Topsy hasn't stopped her plea to be broody a second time so I'm hoping to indulge her with some splash maran eggs.
That is if I win the auction.
Took out the infertile eggs and gave her back the ping pong balls.
I thought Sunny and Smokey were trying to go broody, but they are spending large amounts of time off the nest and still laying.
So no go on those two for now.
your weather must have cooled down because i thought I saw where you weren't going to let them sit because it was too hot. Haha you can't strand it.

No, no, no - you're going about it all wrong. You don't have 13 chickens! Here, let me explain it to you...

Here's the math:
13 physical chickens
- 8 because you can't count the babies as they are too young to matter in the coop calculation and some will be cockerels needing to be rehomed.
=5 So that drops your number back to 5 chickens.
-1 And you can subtract that pullet that isn't in the coop because she pecked the babies
=4 that brings you down to 4!

You say you plan to have twelve - well you better get busy because you only have FOUR! hahahaha

And here is an even easier way to count how many chickens you have for beginners at chicken math, count how many eggs you have, that's how many chickens b/c you only have to count those who lay an egg as a chicken.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! First turkey is out!!

And here is our herioc broody Butterscotch, boggling at what the heck she just hatched:

You can just feel her blaming the father.
