Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

i need help quick so i don't do something wrong ... there is a egg with a double yolk in it and theres a baby trying to get out of the egg but i broke the egg more to try to help it bu the other yolk is stuck to the other baby how do i get him unstuck ?? or get the yolk off of him

Iv'e never heard of this before, i always thaught there would be 2 chicks if it was going to hatch...

I would recommend you leave him alone and let him figure it out if he's going to hatch. I wouldn't try to take the yolk off of him as he is supposed to absorb the yolk. And hatching double yolkers is very risky. Hope it works out.

not all the time .. and i think the yolk is rotten because it has brownish blackish color in the yellow yolk and i don't think its a baby

Topsy hatched her Orpington egg! Saw a glimpse, it's pretty dark looking, then again it's still wet. The two Maran eggs remain unhatched.

The orp egg was a combination of Lavender Orpington pullet and either partridge silkie roo or Welsummer. I don't believe the AM was a potential parent as back then he wasn't mating any of the LOs. Well at least not to my knowledge. I guess time will tell.

I picked up the Maran eggs, she's still sitting n them and they feel pretty heavy. But no cheeps or pecking sounds, so time will tell. If she's still trying to hatch them tomorrow night I'll know they're still good. But my guess is she will abandon them.

So I'm glad I moved the blue egg to Topsy because it makes two chicks per broody. If Topsy hatches the other two I will be shocked and maybe sorry I didn't leave the blue be with Smokey :/

Once the chick hatches and he's absorbed his own yolk sac, then you could take warm damp paper towel and attempt to remove the excess yolk. But it should fall off when he gets his next set of juvenile feathers.

Im sure they will both be happy aslong as they have a chick/chicks

it just died so ya only 3 chicks out of 9 two broke and two died and one was a dud
