BO's are great moms. Wish they weren't so low in the pecking order though. I don't have my girl any more. She had an awful time kick starting her laying after her broody period, and laid weird uneven eggs and then a triple yolker broke inside of her, causing infection. Poor thing.. I tried everything to help her. She was a broody I wanted to have around forever.yes...

Mine did too, but during her setting, she often took beatings when I would kick her out. I had been trying to break her, as we were in the process of moving. She was a hard one!After my orp was broody she got higher in the pecking order, she dosent give them a peck she gives them a beating!
see I find if any one is going to be an issue it is another hen. Never had a rooster go after a chick. And I have too many roosters. But flock dynamics differ.
