Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Xs2 my broodies have generally started laying again around the 5th week. They also have pecked away the chicks by that time. Of course the chicks don't always stay away.

I think it's so cute when mama starts to lay again sometimes chicks go into nest box with her other times you'll find them hanging outside waiting for her to come out,. Found my bantam frizzle[the one I removed her nest box a couple weeks back] sitting in another nest box a while ago. I can't remove another one the rest of my girls need it so i guess she'll just have to sit it out till spring just without eggs. I know I'm a mean mama.

my chickens were also free ranging before.then we lost 3 all at once. now the chickens for there own safety live inside there coop.they hate it but its safer.and we can't even turn them out in the run because the coyote tried to attack them from inside as well.

dog gone hawk keeps coming back! I also saw that one of Topsy's eggs had a pip - this time a real pip not a dirt speck! So that's good - she may have 1 chick. If none hatch by Friday I'll look into plan B.
