When my girls start getting too abused, I just kick the rooster out for a week so they can heal a little. It seems to mellow out the roo, since the girls are back to kicking his behind when he returns.... They are not as submissive when he returns and is low chicken on the pecking order for awhile... Plus it does not put Poor Topsy back at start in the pecking order and having to start fresh...Poor Topsy. I worry about her. She has really bad rooster damage on her back. And now she also has two gashes from his nails. I put Nustock on them but I'm thinking I may have to isolate her for a couple of weeks.
Now if one of my roos start getting really bad, mean and hurtful, off he goes to freezer camp. I have some other roos just waiting to get their own flock. My future flock masters or freezer camp boys are in their own coop...... also, you could try cutting his nails. I know easier said than done.....
