Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

*sigh* Today was day 22 for my English orps. Paid the most ever for these eggs! One arrived cracked, breeder would replace but at their choice of breed, was only interested in English orps. Candled @day 7, 3 had no veins Down to 2 eggs. No pips nothing. Eggs don't smell bad. How long should I wait before I give up ??????

Day 25 for me............although I really did have 1 hatch on day 27 once.
Don't give up yet..................

Aww I love Turkeys! It it not risky having the eggs hatch time so far apart?

Im going to take the chicken eggs off her just before they are due to hatch and raise them so she doesnt have to leave her eggs to feed them

Good Morning everyone,
Sometimes things just work out............have eggs at the post office waiting for pick up.
And my blue laced Wyandotte went broody this week end. Such a sweet girl and she raised one clutch already this summer.
I'll get a picture of her posted. She was given to me because her previous owner could not get her integrated into her flock.
She prefers people to other chickens, especially the Roo........
A couple of weeks ago he tried to mate her........she came running to me screaming, flew up on my shoulder

and tucked her head under my chin.............

Went out and can hear a chick under my broody. I went to reach under to see, and she actually pecked at me! She's never actually pecked. Wow.

They sure get moody! Gracie is on her 3rd hatch for the year and now our Pidgy went broody for her round two.
