Johnn, what breed is Coco?

I let Mama Buffy out in the run today after dosing for mites. She dust bathed for about 30 minutes while the chicks just waited for her to get up. She fought with another hen through the fence, and the rooster came and stood between them! Buffy didn't forget though. Later on I let the other hens have access to the coop and run and Buffy immediately jumped on the hen she was fighting with when she got too close, and Buffy won. Everything else has gone smoothly. She even walked up to the watermelon a couple of hens was eating off of and fed her chicks!

Now you're going to think this a stupid question but how old is a chicken when it's in it's teenage years? I've heard that said a couple of times and I suppose I could google it and find out. Just thought I'd ask. I like your chickens also. Cute story about Buffy.

What kinds of birds do you have? I have one chicken laying right now and a lot of chickens sluffing off. ahaha My chickens are all around the same age and my Barred rock is the one laying. She lays me an egg almost every day. Very small brown eggs.

For the girls, I call it teens when they are still pullets and are in the time that they have feathered out but are not yet laying. Once they start laying they are hens. Boys are teens from the time they first start to dabble in crowing until they have made it to the stage of able to dominate any hen they choose.

Of course those are just my definitions and not scientifically proven. ;)

Wish I would have taken my camera or phone out to the coop at lock up. All four EE babies and the three WL babies were lined up roosting on the perches of the top nest boxes. Lol. They are still small enough I'm sure they think it's great. I'm just glad the RIR isn't in the nest boxes anymore because she was leaving me "presents" at night that were awfully big. The babies just leave little presents for now.

I have a 4 month old what I thought was a pullet and this week on it's 4 month birthday did the deed with my Barred rock Roxanne. I thought I was making something out of nothing and she-he did it again today. His target is always Roxanne.
