Went to grocery store came home and baby duck was outside of nest box and cold but still alive, so my dh and I set up a broody box real quick. it's been about 2 hours now and the little one is warm and much stronger and has a little ouch on it's head but no blood. the other egg was shrinked wrapped and the duckling was dead. now mama duck has 1 egg left under her, so don't know if it's viable will leave it for a few more days before getting it out. Most of the time Muscovies are great mamas, don't know what happened here. but very thankful the one duckling is doing good.

good thing you got home when you did! Hopefully the other one will hatch. You just never know once something strange happens at the very end.

Has it been really dry where you are, too? Would that have an adverse effect on the development of the foetus? Since the egg is porous? (Sorry, I have humidity on the brain just now!)

Hope the next duckling pops out strong and healthey for you!

My parents had muscovies when i was little. I was really scared of them ... Especially the drakes!!! But then, they were bigger than me!

Well...now it's three chicks. The third one I had given up on but had not removed yet. Glad I didn't. The first hatched on the first and the last today.

Sorry country girl, most likely the other chickens ate the other eggs, are you sure they were alive? hope this one makes it.

well the first egg that was damaged yesterday by getting stepped on by the hen was a developed chick at about day 13 or 14 the two that are missing today was not sure of because i have never candled them so i hope this last egg makes it another few more days and hatches because the feed stores around here do not have anymore chicks till it starts to cool off so not able to buy any for her if this one does not hatch
