I just checked on my broody, we are on day 19, and I lifted her up to see if she wanted food or water and one of the eggs peeped at me! EEEEEE! This is so exciting! Momma turned her beak up at food, took a little drink of water, and hopped right back on the nest.

so sweet! Do they usually start peeping at day 19? Does that indicate an early hatch? Or are they right on track?

I always seem to be off a day on broody hatches.. I think I confuse the countdown when I am deciding if she is..indeed..broody

Good luck with your hatch

I commonly have at least one of my Sumatra's hatch on day 19. It doesn't matter whether I am incubating, or have a broody....... I always seem to get one on day 19. So for me it is normal. I also notice they can peep in the shell a good 24 hours before they start to hatch.

Congrats, your about to see your first chick, I still love to put the egg up to my ear and listen. We have ducklings pipping and I can hear them peeping inside the shell,

Hello Everyone,

I gave Doris 15 eggs today. She is a ginormous girl so I think she will probably do fine. I only really wanted 6 eggs but chicken math somehow got me.

This is Doris when she is not broody. I tried to break her but she was quite determined. She is a little on the ditzy side. We will see how this goes. I am prepared to raise any successes if need be, but she needs to incubate them.

I have a broody silkie who is on 8 eggs on day 11. Yesterday one of my BO girls decided to go broody. Her and my silkie seem perfectly content to share the eggs and nest box. Should I try to break fer or leave her? Does it matter that the eggs are already on day 11? I have 3 more in the incubator, and am tired of messing with them. I have turkey poults inside, a 4 month old baby, a 19 month old, a 6 year old, and a hubby with a broken leg who thinks he's an invalid. I have a garden thats in deperate need of weeding, my meaties are overdue to be processed, my house needs cleaned, etc.

So can I put the rest of the eggs in there and let the girls do the work or do I need to break my BO of being broody? She is 9 months old and the silkie is 7 months old if that matters any. Their first time being broody for both. If anyone else goes broody I give up. I wanted a broody and now it looks like I may be in for it. I have 3 more BO's, another silkie, and a silkie/game who are probably all going to go broody this week with my luck. Oh, and I just started selling my extra eggs and the way it's going looks like I might not have any more soon.
