Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Thanks. I do have a 9 yr old and wouldn't you know it, she's still at school. I can't wait to see her face.

I imagine she'll be over the moon! I see you're from Cottage Grove - I live in Clackamas - hello fellow Oregonian!

I have a good feeling about our little Spot. She's (he's) the biggest of the brood and quite feisty.

Oregonian Beach Girl, here!
One week to hatch.
Your babies have inspired me so much!!! Can't wait to be taken by surprise by some teeny fluffy heads poking out from under AliceAnn!
What do you all do to occupy yourselves for the last week until hatch??? I am dying to just bed down in the straw and stare at her for the next 7 days!

Rachel, I pretty much did just that! And when they finally started to hatch it still took me by surprise - I had poked my head in just to say hi to Weezy and lo and behold there was a chick! HAVE FUN!! my broody momma is a Black Australorp as well - good, good momma!

things have been completely crazy for my family for the past couple of weeks (we have an 18 month old son, our new business opening & getting ready to move, among other things) so I've just been lurking on here. This is so exciting!!!

Congratulations, and I hope some of mine hatch. I have been so busy with life that I haven't even been able to hang out with the chickens, much less candle eggs

I hope if there are any unfertlized ones, they don't explode, because I'm on lockdown. Fingers crossed

Wow you're busy! Just remembering what it was like to have an 18 mo old makes me tired.

You only have a couple more days right? I'll be sending out good hatching ju ju. I'll tell ya, it's pretty exciting. Telling the kids was super fun. I just loaded this page and first showed them heatherkh's pic of Spot, really casual. Then I scrolled down to my black chick, they oohed and ahhed not realizing. Then I scrolled to the pic of Mona and baby...took about 4 seconds and the hoops and hollers began. I thought DD was going to burst into tears she was so excited. Of course a trip to the coop was next. Still have only the 2 that we can see but she's not coming off the nest so I'm waiting patiently.

BarnGoddess: May I please please have that sweet little frizzle? I've been really good this year.

Thanks all for the congrats. I have had so much fun with this process. I'm now looking at my other really young broody and thinking....hmmmmm. Me thinks I'm addicted.
