Thanks, perchie! I do have fun with it. Not terribly expensive stuff ... I use a Canon EOS Rebel XSi. Canon 18 - 55mm lens for indoor work. Usually 55 - 250 mm Canon lens for outdoor work. All lens with IS (image stablilization). I am a serious amateur. Obviously take quite a few photos (including weddings and such) and I've taken a bunch of courses as well - photography and Photoshop.

Years ago I had a Canon TX SLR. No automatic anything couple of lenses and I must have taken a thousand pictures with that thing. It was heavy as a brick housing made of metal and I didint even have a flash.... I had to sell it when my horse had to go to hospital.... sigh. I Seriously want a DSLR now. What I do not like is the shutter speed of the little hand helds. You frame up a shot and by the time that cute goat head becomes a cute goat buttt. LOL. Nikon Coolpix is not a bad camera for scenery and family shots around birthdays and stuff, but I want more.

Can I just jump in here?
My friend has a little Cannon number: fits in her pocket and was less than £100,- a couple of years ago. She does fabulous action shots coz it had a really good motor drive. If you look at my pics on Facebook, you'll see what I mean...All the horse ones over jumps and showing the progression through a double. If you want to send me a Friend request so you can see, pleas do

and the other eggs? I guess the ducks could have eaten them I haven't ever seen my muscovies eat an actual in tack egg but they do eat the shells of the ones that hatch. I hope you can figure out this mystery.

if you can get her some more eggs, she'll still want to hatch them- maybe set her up in a protected area where no others can get in?

X2 was thinking the same thing.

My first time hatching any chicks was with a Serama hen a few months ago. Out of six eggs, only one hatched. That chick died after a week or so. I wasn't even really trying to hatch any, just thought I'd let her sit on the eggs since she went broody. Now, the same hen is sitting on eggs again. She's been sitting on 9 eggs for just over two weeks. Yesterday I candled them and tossed two of them - one that looked infertile or just failed to develop very much, and a second one that was an obvious quitter. I'm hoping the others will hatch for her. She's a good mama and deserves to have some little chickies to mother after all that sitting.

Also, about a month ago I acquired 15 more Seramas. Three are roos. All the others are hens. Four of those hens have now gone broody! Three of them have been sitting on their eggs for almost two weeks and one just decided to sit a few days ago. I haven't really been keeping track of those eggs with candling so don't know if they're developing, but will check on them soon to see.

I think it is so cool to have a hen sit on eggs!

It is and Congrats on all the broodys. I can't imagine how small those eggs are, some of my bantams lay tiny eggs so yours have to be tee tiny. Keep us updated on all the hatching.
