Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

I wouldn't hatch them if they are for breeding purposes, but if they are just for your enjoyment you could take the risk.

Yes, She just happened to go broody. I think there are only about 4 eggs under her, but I am not sure. I need to see, but I dont want to disturb her yet. One of our other girls might be going in there and laying so there may be more eggs. Yikes! Maybe I will make my husband do it. She seems to like him more.

They had wazine a week or so ago, and they have been on duramycin in water for about a week too.

super cute!

My rooster was sitting looking at my silkie in the nest (until I opened the door). In the nest is the silkie, who is the broody one, and her friend Opal a serama. HOW CUTE IS THAT!

The silkie let me pet opal, but if I got to close to her she would flip out. I have no idea where the other egg layer is laying her eggs... I need to find those...

I might try to get her some different eggs to sit on. I have read that wazine can cause deformities that can be pretty severe.

:( Well I guess I will just have to wait and see. I dont even know yet if these are fertile.

I have no other eggs to put under her as only her and another barred rock are the only layers. I didnt plan for her to go broody or anything like that. I just didnt get the eggs one day and BOOM. Its a crazy thing. I was hoping she would earlier and left about 6 eggs in there, but to no avail.

The things I looked up said it might be more of a constant treatment with antibiotics like over a month or more.
