Well, do you guys remember when I said I wanted a broody, Well, I got more than I asked for 5 broody hens out of my 7 chickens. :th

I only have 3 nest boxes! lol. I'm only letting 3 set, the other 2 I am breaking their trance. :p

My Splash Cochin, my Buff Orp mix, My buff orp, my Ameraucana, and my Cochin bantam ALL wanted to hatch some chicks. But I only let the girls that were the most serious.

I got 4 eggs for each girl. The Splash Cochin has 2 RIR and 2 Leghorn, the Buff Orpington mix has 2 RIR and 2 Leghorn, and the Cochin bantam has 4 barnyard mixes :)

The Cochin bantam's chicks were set may 1st, and the other 8 RIR, and Leghorn eggs were set Sunday :)

If you have allowed the broody hatch happen outside of the rest of the flock, when does one introduce momma and babies back into the flock. Or take momma away ? thanks for all comments/advice,
Ginny

Why take mama away? she will introduce chicks to flock. Even when mine don't hatch in main coop they are still out with all the flock during the day so they are all around each other. it's best to let her bring them into the main coop when she is ready, sometimes it's right after hatch then I had one that has 6 week old chicks and she has just now brought them into the main coop [with a little help from me] I needed her side of hatch coop. They are doing fine because even thought they didn't sleep with flock at night were all together during day time.

I went to pick up a cement mixer late this afternoon at a friends house and he has a broody game hen with 7 lil ones. A few days old only. Reminded me very much of my Sumatra's. And in the attic of his garage is a nest of pigeon babies. He is far less excited about them
