Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

I've got a broody she's been broody for two weeks, but her hatching eggs are shipping out today, does anyone think she'll hold out for eggs that will actually hatch?

Might want to slip a couple fake or reg. eggs under her just to make sure she sits tight. then when you get your hatching eggs make the transfer. Good luck.

I've let her sit on unfertile eggs for these last two weeks.

Hens cant count lol. So they will just sit and sit and sit until they hatch something but this isn't always right (with anything these days). Depending on the breed eg: Sex-Links are not the best at lasting on nest (personal experience) where as Bantams will sit for months (personal experience).

My eggs are developing! Candled them last night, and they're growing at a steady pace

Silkies by reputation are among the broodiest of broodies! Silkies, game bantams and bantam Cochins are the top 3 broody banties that I can think of.

I am sad because I think the eggs I put under my broody are not fertile. I haven't been seeing a whole lot of "action" going on. Beta roo just took over after Alpha died 2 weeks ago. I broke open an egg from the chicken I got the other eggs from and didn't see the bullseye.

I am surprised at how sad this makes me. I know I am anthropomorphising here, but I feel like she wants to be a mom and I didn't give her the right eggs to sit on and how disapointed she's going to be when they don't hatch. I'm actually losing sleep over this...LOL.
