Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Well...momma finally did come out again today and I got a look at the other eggs. No activity I can see at all. They were all placed on Friday, Dec. 7 at about 8:30 pm. I only looked for any outside signs of activity.

Since I don't see any activity, do you think there's still hope? I had thought not to expect any action until today but baby 1 hatched pretty early yesterday.

Today baby followed her out but I did not see baby eat or drink. Mom went back to the nest and baby followed her back.

So here is how I found Mini this morning , in her usual spot but I would say she has tried a little harder to become one with the corner.

She dosnt growle or cluck or cloop or make any noise if you bother her she just stares at you like this. If I lift her body up she just sags back down once I let go. She comes out and plays when the other chickens are out though even if thats for a couple hours and the cage is open she can get back in whenever she wants but as long as the others are out she is out. Inside though she spends 95% of her time like this

unless I miss counted today is day 22. Chances are the others won't hatch but if they were mine I would put them in an incubator until the end of New Years Day.I get the occasional late hatcher

Bummer that I don't have an incubator

She's still hanging on the nest and tonight after dark I might try to make some kind of determination by listening, looking, etc.

Gabriella- your little gal is hilarious! I have never seen a chicken do that before.

Leah's Mom- good luck on a late hatcher. It's always nice for a chick to have a buddy.

Anyone know if there is another thread like this one for incubator hatching? I got an incubator for Christmas and am going to fire it up in a few weeks. :D
