It could have gap worm. It can cause that weird opening and closing of the mouth. It could have swallowed something weird or is adjusting its crop. Does it have sand or grit to eat with its feed? Definitely posting this question in the emergency section will get you better opportunity to have someone diagnose it faster. Hope things work out.

Thats one broody down! After both of her eggs dissapearing, she has decided its time to give up!:

Daisy on the other hand still has both her eggs plus a extra one, but I just couldn't be bothered to remove it. One egg still looks fresh so hopefully will be ok to hatch, the other looks mouldy but I'm not going to move it as it doesn't smell yet and it could just be because it's dirty. They are due to hatch in 6 days. She is 3 in August and it will be her first time as a mother. She gets a bit over the top with chasing other hens with her wings out though!

My BO broody looks just like that when she comes out for her daily constitutional. Her eggs are due on Tuesday (day 21), so she doesn't have much longer to wait. I looked at them on day 14 and all but one of the 6 are progressing nicely. That one was clear, and I removed and opened it yesterday when it still showed clear. One of the remaining eggs has the air cell on the side of the egg, but I can see body parts up there by the air cell (hoping it is a beak), so there may be a chance it will hatch ok. I'd love to candle them again, but I don't want to interfere any more than I already have. I take her a little bowl of treats in the evening when the other girls get treats, and she is finally not hissing and growling at me when I set it down. She is my first experience with a broody, so we are learning together.

Anndddd here we go again. So my buff orp Penny went broody and hatched chicks. I expected this. My welsh harlequin is broody. I also expected this. I also figured another chicken would go broody before the end of the season. Maybe a barred rock, they sometimes go broody. Perhaps a wyandotte. Maybe the marans. Heck, maybe even an easter egger. Definitely not the leghorn, and certainly not the sex link.

About that...
