Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

I don't really know for sure.  She has short legs and a toe punch. I bought her at a poultry show in the sale area. I think she was out of a  project pen and is  part Ameraucauna, part Black Orpington. She has a pea comb. She lays a dozen green eggs and then goes broody like clock work.

Haha.

So I'm really nervous my pullets eggs are too little. I put two very small bantam EE eggs and one little pullet egg under my broody EE. One if them is hers and the others from her flock mates. Is it possible for an egg to be too small? She is 9 days into setting and is a champ!

It's perfectly normal for a pullet egg to be small and some EE's have naturally small eggs.
Thanks! She is a bantam and her large breed sisters weren't laying full size eggs either though they are getting to be large now. She is 25 weeks now. How early do chickens go broody typically?

I've made my red sex link Lemon's day. She's been broody, and being broody has made her dopey. She tried to take a dust bath on my lap and couldn't remember what nest she was supposed to be on, so, since she's so friendly and is a favorite, I ordered her some chicks. They arrived today, all alive! Three naked necks, two dark brahmas, one california white, three mottled houdans, one barred rock, one golden sex link, and two mysteries, which appear to be a sex link and a barred rock. All pullets except the houdans, which are straight run.

I decided to give her five and see how she does for a few hours, and if all's well, she'll get the rest before I leave for work. She was so happy when she heard the peeping. I took her eggs, put a chick in front of her, and she got all excited, like "Is that for me?" She raised up, encouraged it under her, and sat back down. I tucked the other four under and so far so good. She's happy as, well, as a broody with chicks.

I'll try to get some tomorrow! I did end up giving them all to her before I left for work and she was just so happy. She sat there and let them peck and her and pull on her wattles so I'm thinking all will be well. I'll be checking on everybody once I get home to be sure.
