Something is not right with Little Chicken today. Her wings are droopy and when she tries to poop it's like a white bubble but then it goes back in. I know this isn't the right thread for asking for help but I thought I would post here as well in case someone has seen this in there new little ones. Here is a picture of her yesterday with her wings tucked and all seeming OK. She was eating yesterday for the first time but today just seems to be drinking water. She was hatched on 9/4. Thanks for any advice.
What are you feeding her? Coccidiosis is common in chicks and can be bad. Are you feeding a medicated feed? With Amprolium or Bacitracin? Be sure to post on a thread about illness right away.

Quick question for those who use the brinsea ecoglow 20 egg incubator... I know this is a broody thread but figured some could help.

The local school wanted some of my eggs to hatch for their science class and ehen i went to set them with the teacher yesterday, 4 dutch eggs and 4 sizzles. We cut some styrofoam to put on either side of the eggs o the wouldnt fall. And a bit of papertowel inbetween each egg since they were right against eachother.

Now i dont use this kind of incubator, so i was wondering if this is a correct way of setting eggs? I could see if i could get oics if you would like smile.png

I am guessing she ate wood shavings. I took mine all away when I saw mine doing that. Mine are already on medicated crumble. Always. For Coccidiosus.
Give her stress formula if you are not already. I always put some in the water in case they don't eat right. Wing wise can you feel her body to see if everything is in the right place after you check the same on a normal chick. any lump in the crop? breathing shallow? Feed warm porridge maybe and stuff that will go down and pull anything stuck out. How is she doing now 19 hours later? If it is a serious chick disease I don't know what to do that's why I feed them medicated.

OMG I didn't even think of the pine shavings. You are probably right on because I did see her pecking at them. I never saw her eat any though. Today she's a little off balance and chirping alot. Wings still droopy and she does have a puffy crop. What is stress formula? I am giving her electrolytes and some watered down molasses as was previously suggested. She is pooping a liquid sometimes clear stuff. Thank you so much.

She is getting medicated chick food. Should I treat for coccidiosis anyway??

Like I said. See if porridge does the trick. I would also add olive oil, fish oil, castor oil, omega oil, veggie oil. Maybe you can eye drop it on the side of the beak so she gets some when she opens her mouth. I use the side of the beak sometimes to get them drinking and knowing what water is for. If you have salmon oil, omega oil capsules, these would help smooth it down and increase immunity.
Stress formula for chickens is on amazon. It is a better booster for the immune system than electrolytes. If your electrolytes have all the vitamins and minerals in high doses that might be good. High Stress is different though. Take away the shavings yet? Molasses good idea, also honey.

My broody, Batman, was teaching them to eat shavings while their food was scattered every where already. What doesn't kill them such like maybe nahhh!
I have not had this happen to me and not dealt with it personally. Also, try the chicken sickness websites. Don't know if they can help in a chick size problem though. I will dig up what I can.
You can put her up in a heated box to monitor her. At four days old she should be at 95 degrees F until tomorrow. Starting Friday, keep the box at 90F for a week and 5 degrees less per week until you know she is eating and defecating normally. Boost her water every day changing the water.
Normally chickens eat anything but yours ate too much of the wrong thing. That's why you were caught off guard. I hope I can be of help till she gets better. Keep us up to date. thanks

Thank you. I do have her alone in box with no shavings and a brooder lamp. She is not eating or drinking. When I dip her beak into the electrolytes she does act like she's swallowing.
