Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

I want a couple turkeys, but Duke is adamantly against them.
I already have a couple of turkeys, hoping to get a few more hens and sell the rest. Maybe you'll have some eventually. At first my husband rolled his eyes, but now he loves to hear the Tom gobble.

We'll see how it goes. I had another broody (bantam cochin) that successfully hatched out turkeys before. This is this broody's first time. She's super nasty though, so hopefully she will be a good Momma. I can't go near her without risking losing a finger. And she makes this noise that is straight out of Jurassic Park!

I have 3 eggs from my Midget white hen, and a fellow BYCer is kindly sending me some turkey eggs. Not sure if they are pure, but who cares?

I wouldn't as long as they're smaller birds; heck, even a standard would be OK. Any ideas where I could get some eggs in about a month???(dozen)

Found a Brahma with a stash of eggs. All developing, 6 D'Anver and 2 brahma eggs.
What fun! I found my frizzle serama brooding today in a nest of dried leaves; could hardly see her.

With a nest of dried leaves pulled up tight and almost over her she virtually disappeared-6 little eggs. I use dried leaves and dried pine needles (unlimited supply) as bedding and nest box material.

They usually don't go broody. I got three from a breeder nearby that I met through BYC. He said he hasn't had one go broody yet, so we'll have to see how she does. They are supposed to be more of a production, heavy egg laying breed. Lovely birds though, very aware of their surroundings and independent.

Where are you located? You could always check craigslist, and people sell eggs here in the classified section and on ebay. Hope you find some!

They usually don't go broody. I didn't think so. I got three from a breeder nearby that I met through BYC. He said he hasn't had one go broody yet, so we'll have to see how she does. The ones my wife bought are as you describe; big, alert, and beautiful.

I candled one of my broodys eggs and its internally pipped! That mean the rest are soon to follow! I blocked her in the box as I don't want chicks falling out and her leaving the nest until i move her i have wire blocking her from leaving even though she wouldnt but ive had chicks fall out before

Good idea! I've had chicks get lost from under Mama too. Best of luck!

Haha, that's so cute!

I put 11 eggs under my broody, we'll see how many will develop. I think she can cover them all...

I usually like to keep about 6 under the broodies and then put the rest in the incubator, then after they hatch give them all to broody (indoor brooder) so she raises about 15
