In my experience, the black area is the chick, so, that's a good thing, not a bad thing. Hang in there.
I know the black is a chick, I'm trying,

Why do chicks quit growing in the egg?

I have eggs in the incubator (day 16 today) and after candling them today, most look like they are at about day 12 according to the "chicks are here" egg candling photos. Most seem to be very active and moving about but not quite as totally dark as they are in the photos. Should I wait to go into lock down, which would be on Tuesday? Thanks. They went into the bator on Feb. 18th.
What day are you on? 23? Did you candle the egg to see it had not changed? The egg has not changed
So true, I feel like an expectant father, never mind mother. Pacing, worrying.....I would go by what day you are on, not by what you see inside the shell. I think that can be very deceptive. I would lockdown as usual. Best of luck! FYI, I'm only on my first incubator hatch, but I find we often complicate things!

Thanks! I'm out of the house for 14+ hours today, so I am hoping for a pip or two when I come home. If they do, I may be staying up late tonight.![]()

I would give it to day 25, if you can. Just to be sure!
I candled the egg again, it lookes like there is less black than the last time I candled it. It's not moving.
However the three eggs I have under a different hen that are going to hatch this weekend are alive and wiggling around!
