Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

I candled the egg again, it lookes like there is less black than the last time I candled it. It's not moving.

However the three eggs I have under a different hen that are going to hatch this weekend are alive and wiggling around!

Sorry about the first eggs :( but so happy for you with the other eggs, hope all goes well! :D

One peep so far in the incubator!

Mt hen has been sitting on the eggs full time as of 3/1/17. Do I start counting days when she went to full time sitting or when she was just sitting for a few hours?

When your hen is staying on the nest full time(except for short breaks) that is when you put the eggs under her that she will be setting on-----then you start counting days, before this time the eggs should have been collected every day. If you allowed her nest to collect eggs just when ever and she set for a few hours and stayed off for a few hours----no one can honestly answer your question---who knows are the eggs any good now???? How old are the oldest eggs in the nest? Is she still where other hens can lay a egg in her nest? If so Do you have the original eggs marked and remove any un-marked eggs daily?

I did not collected every day because I wanted to see if one of the hens would go broody. She started sitting full time on the 5th day.
no other hens are laying eggs in her box. I read somewhere that you just leave the eggs out for a week and if a hen claims them in a week it would be find and should get chicks. The oldest eggs are 2/25/17
