Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

@fluffycrow try asking @sourland he is a broody magician, again be careful what you wish for. I asked sourland to wave his magic wand so I would have full size broody hens and I have some at the same time in spring and in summer, this has been going on for years.
Good Luck :frow

Did that last year (getting birds from a broody flock that is), well tried to at least. The bird was completely wild, escaped her pen, then the property, and then someone stole her. Plus, she looked like this
Are the others the same breed as her? She looks like a production bred bird, and even I cannnot work miracles on them.

She's not a production bird. She's a landrace mix, most of which go broody. My girls are also a landrace Greek breed, known for their broodyness. So definitely not a production breed. Please work your magic!

Also, she was the one I got from another flock, and she was broody, the only on my property to do so in the 11 years I've been chicken keeping. That photo was taken while she was taking a break from sitting, unfortunately she stopped at 2 weeks, and then, as you already know, escaped and got stolen 1 month later. Needless to say, I'm desperate for some broodies, so I DEFINITELY wish for broodies! You're free to do as much magic as you want @sourland , whatever it takes to get some broodies in my flock!

What landrace Greek breed was she? None of the pictures I have googled look anything like her.

She was a landrace mix, so I wouldn't expect to find any matching pictures. She was the only one that went broody though. My girls come from a different stock, and are pure landrace. None have gone broody

Oh sorry didn't even respond to the question😅! Not sure what landrace mix she was, but my best guess is that she was a Tsouloufati mix ( or vlahiki or eliniki) She had a small crest, a mottled type pattern, and a single comb. All indicative of the Tsouloufati breed. My girls are pure Tsouloufati.

I would warn you though, @sourland , Google might be misleading in this case, since these breeds are so rare that they dodnt receive any attention whatsoever. I tried searching up Greek landrace breeds, and none actual Greek breeds came up, only some random rare breeds that had nothing to do with Greek breeds

Broody hen where cryptic coloration works. No magic required to get in going. This year we will shoot for a dozen hens rearing broods. Most will start with clutches where first egg is laid after last frost.
