Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

How many eggs can I fit under my bantam hen? She's a fab proven sitter, and te eggs are no bigger tan her own. Have 13 (or 11, I can't remember) in the incubator on day 5 and my bantam hen has gone all broody. She's as flat as an angry pancake in the coop. Could I get all 11 under her do you think? Don't mind losing a couple but can't see the point in a broody hen and an incubator!!!!

how many are under her now. 13 might be asking alot of a bantam, I have one bantam brooding right now and she might be able to do 10 but that would be streching it I think. oops forgot. to get the pics. be right back teehee

all your hens and babies are sooo beautiful! Most of ours are missing feathers.
Today our broody's babies are 7 week old and she took them outside for the first time. It was probably around 56F outside and cloudy - it was raining in the morning.

Well....my 'broody' hen changed nests. I took the eggs out of the one she moved from and brought them in the house. Candled them and it looked like they had started and quit....but then they were ice cold and no telling when she moved. And....no telling how many eggs she has under her now. I am still going to move her because she growled at me and I think she still wants to sit. At least by moving her she will be limited as to how many eggs she can go off and leave.

Who knows? So....I'm off this thread and going back to my incubating thread. Good luck with everyones broody hatches!! And post pictures..nothing cutes that a hen and her chicks.

My Silkie mix is just under 2lbs and she could handle six. When anyone else layed and extra in her nest one always got pushed out so I put her in a dog kennel to keep all her fertile eggs safer. Good luck and don't stress the little thing too much
