Thanks, he is just over a year old. I actually posted this concern on a different thread because I was worried he wasn't fertilizing the silkie's eggs. In our mixed flock he has always chosen the standard hens, I had never seen him be interested in the silkies. So when the came time, I isolated the three of them in a breeding house/run for three weeks! I figured in that time he would have done his one and only job...not.
It is such high maintenance to keep him, since we aren't allowed roosters. He has a timed box so he doesn't crow too early. He is a real sweetie but we have been dealing with him for a year for this one purpose! He is not much protection for the hens, he really can't see well through his crest. Oh well, I give HIM the stinkeye now.

No Alexander.. you are not alone..lol. I love a traditional looking large fowl chicken. It can be any color. Silkies are not my thing..While I don't mind other people loving them...as they are very popular.. I don't care for a chicken that ..to me.. resembles a stuff animal...but in the same vein.. I don't like chickens with wild hair dos..or seriously long tail feathers. I have conceded to feathered feet.. But since the world would be a boring place if we were all alike.. AND variety being the spice of life as they say... everyone should have chickens! Silkies are chickens too.

Of course silkies are chickens too and in fact i dont think i would mind having one.I may change my mind you never know.

But they look like toys that is true.
