Congrats stony on the hatches.

NellaBean, I would be a bit frazzled if I had 10 kids wouldn't you?

She just started sitting again. She's been acting broody since I brought her home in the sense that she has been an attitudy Judy. Puffing and growling at me, but not setting. She layer three eggs in the past two weeks also.

I'd be worried about giving chicks to a hen who's been sitting less than 10-14 days. It doesn't sound like she's quite ready to be mama. I guess the worst that can happen is you lose some chicks trying it.

I tend to agree with Tiss, if she had been sitting it would probably work.

Today my first chick hatched and it is beautiful Little Richard and Nene first peep Nene is still sitting on more eggs so we will see how many more we get

Thanks guys. I know nothing about broodys. When I got her she has some eggs that were almost ready to hatch but the move freaked her out and the eggs died. Now she's back in the dog crate and I think she's sittin on some of my other hens eggs but I don't know because I'm terrified to check under that she-devil

If you don't mind her sitting then just let her do her thing. might want to sneak in while she's out doing her thing and mark the eggs so you can keep up with the first ones to hatch. what I mean is when she goes outside sneak in and mark her eggs. [don't want you to lose a hand

My Bantam Cochin is do to hatch eggs July1, I thought she only had 2 but today when she went to stretch her legs she had 3!! so not sure how long that has been there She is almost never out of the nest!! I got worried when I saw her out at the sand lot, but as soon as she saw me peaking into her nest she ran back. she seems healthy and happy so . . You go girl!! this is my first broody experience and I am sooo excited!!
what can you tell me about candling? I couldn't tell anything with my flashlight
she had only laid 4 eggs when she went broody so I gave her EE eggs!
Here's hoping!
