Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Well, I must have jinxed it. Mama left the egg in the carrier and was pecking around outside with the chicks. The egg was cold.
Atleast I got 3 out of it! I hope I get atleast 1 pullet this time.

Mama probably knows best. If she decided it was time to move, well, it was time to move on.

Congratulations on your 3

Do we get pictures???

I gave in today and let my cranky broody have 3 eggs to hatch. Talk about getting the stink eye this last week! Eek! I should dead by now... lol! Crazy bird...

Sooo is it 21 days from today that they should hatch? That would be around the 23rd right? I wasn't planning to put a heat lamp in the coop, but I guess now I'm gonna have to...

When the breeze was blowing really good this afternoon I went to check on my broody JB since she chose to build her nest in the corner by the door. I neednt have worried, she had conscripted her bantam Cochin friend to share the nest with her. They were "discussing" who should be sitting on which eggs. What a hoot!!

somewhere I heard that you need to count the first day as day Zero..... Avid reader here no broodies yet

That's what I've heard too, unless you set first thing in the morning, but that it's still best to start at 0.

Thanks guys! Never done this before... Lucky me Miss crankypants aka YumYum has. Don't know why DS named her her YumYum, but the name stuck.

I thought I would need a heat lamp since their coop is a little drafty. To winterize their digs I just added straw to the coop, surprisingly it was quite warm in there this am.
