ducks usually start to lay around 5 to 6 months of age depending on the breed, my muscovies start arounf 6to 7 months. So in the morning if you notice some of your girls don't seem to be hanging around like the rest you might have some laying. When mine first start to lay I keep them close to their pen till mid morning so they will go into their house to lay. After you have adults they will teach the others where to lay. My muscovy that was laying under the ramp going into their house must have gotten tired of me taking her eggs and thought she'd pull a fast one, well not fast it takes 35 days for them to hatch. But she missed one night going into the house so I started investagating.

My brand new broody mama successfully hatched her three eggs today earlier than expected! At least one of those eggs are ones DH had put in the refrigerator and I took out to put under her when she decided to get broody. I've seen two and felt one. Yay!! She has redeemed broody hens after my first traumatic experience.
