you ladies crack me up! I do want more chicks of course. But I would prefer to wait till spring. BUT, if one of the girls or the pro "mama" goes broody, I'll let them have at it

.
It's kinda nice getting Sumatra eggs to eat again

. As 11 large breed girls are all molting. Their coop looks like 3 chickens blew up!

Thank you all for the condolences! I got a bit upset that Pip did that, but, she's a first timer so I'll cut her some slack....this time!

So, I buckled under a bought a mini-advance and set seven eggs last night. Hopefully, we'll have a few extra things to be thankful for come Thanksgiving!

Like you said, Miss Lydia, maybe we'll have better luck come Spring!

Congrats to all that have new fuzzy butts to love and to those who are anxiously waiting, good luck!! I can't wait to see all the pics!

you had 4 broodies in your dining room?
I had an indoor duckling for 3 months because mama duck wanted to kill it, it was fun, but glad he is with the rest of the ducks now.

I put the broodies in tote tubs so I can make sure they eat and drink. My dining room is like 17x25 so I do have some room, but still, I was glad it was over. Then 2 months later they started all over again. I put the chicks in the brooder in the basement and mamma goes back to the coop when the chicks are about a week old. I would love to leave them with mamma, but I haven't built a separate mamma coop yet.

My coop looks like a feather factory blew up too and I only have 5 ladies in there.

yup 14 broody's this year. "Mama" is hiding her eggs again. I need to find that nest or it will be 15....

Lucky number 15!! Maybe you should a bell on the sneaky mamma, then you know where she is headed.

I caught "mama" this morning doing the egg song in the shed that she likes to raise her little ones in. I'll have to do some searching in there. "mama" is the egg hiding master! I type this as I eat 3 Sumatra eggs layed this morning....yum....

None of my birds has done a full molt! Both my JB roo and my wheaten marans hen just sort of thinned out feather wise, looked scruffy then suddenly began looking better and better until you'd swear someone had swapped them out almost overnight!! What's wrong with them, or is that normal too?

My little JB mamma and baby are outside with the other birds and doing just fine. Baby is very cute and tiny and NEVER stops talking, loudly!

They have small molts and big molts. sometimes you can't even tell. depending on age, my other 2 brahmas are molting too but nothing like their sister. I thought she was going to be completely naked before she was through. now she looks like a porcupine lol you need to post a pic of the lil one now.
