Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

well, one of my girls born this year who I just refer to as my shop egg layer is showing all of the broody signs. She is called that because she comes in my workshop 6 days a week and lays an egg in a drawer in my shop. Yesterday I noticed her puffing up a little like a broody. 1st thing this morning I noticed the same. There are feathers in her nest, she sat today for about 4 hours to lay, and this afternoon she was puffed up and angry at everyone. Ugg. She is just not in a good spot. In my workshop. She isn't sitting yet, but I bet tomorrow or the next day she starts. She is 7 months old and been laying for 2 months. Not sure what to do with broody # 15, and it isn't "mama"

I guess you'll have to move your shop out of doors so your chickens can take over your shop.

Whats with these year round broodys.

well being I love my girls, and this one is kinda special, I put 2 eggs in the drawer that were layed today. I figure if she lays tomorrow, she will sit. She will HAVE to get over the noise

You all had to know I would let her

I'm sorry CluckyJay that your gonna have to wait for fuzzy butts, but with winter just around the corner it's probably for the best, and she was probably just practicing anyway. some of mine from this years hatch do that.

My one is set fast in broody mode. No waffling, just got broody and sat. This is her first time. She wasn't even laying yet in August! She's great. Let me take her off the nest so I could count eggs and then went back on. Makes the most horrible noises, but no pecking at me TG. I don't think she's getting off to eat or drink though. I see no poop. The last time anyone saw her off the nest was 2&1/2 days ago. *worries*

Their pretty quick and you could miss her doing it unless you are sitting and watching her, but you can put feed and water close to her and maybe she'll get up to have some then, Sometime i would worry mine weren't getting up so i would go out around 1:00 pm and take her off, she would let out a scream, run out do a huge broody poop run and eat and drink dust bathe then get back on the nest all in about 5 min. lol. Then girls are crazy when they brood.
