I only know the float test to see if eggs are fresh to eat or not. It has always worked for me.
this past summer my broody was sitting on 3 brahma eggs that i weren't sure about, well when i did the float test they showed viable, isn't that when they float? but they weren't even fertile.

if I remember yes. But also a rotten egg floats.... so there you go....
well, i candled them and they were sloshy again like the other 3, one has a darker shadow on the narrow end, thought i'd give them till wednesday, under Cindylou, and let flo raise the little one without worrying about the other eggs- when i first got the eggs flo was the only broody and couldn't cover them all so maybe some got cold?
