Yes they talk to their chicks and vise versa, it's so precious, so now you have to talk to the chicks in the bator. Looking forward to hearing how it all goes...Checked on Smokey a little bit ago - she's smooshed down. I see that she ate some food yesterday & overnight. Today is supposed to be much sunnier and warmer then yesterday - so a good day for her to hatch those eggs![]()
She was bok, bok, boking quietly this morning and just now I heard her do the same thing. I think she is talking to her clutch of soon to be babies? She didn't growl at all at me - just continued to bok, bok, bok quietly.
The bator has some activity too - two of the Wellie eggs were moving a bit this morning and we can clearly hear some chirping coming from inside even with the fan on!![]()

My broody hen recently hatched 7chicks out of 12 eggs! She is a blue laced red wyandotte and the chicks are also BLRW. She is doing great and the chicks are healthy. She is a good mama. I have more hen's eggs due to hatch Thursday, 1 is one 6 the other is on 6, both BLRW and so are the eggs. When will the mama hen start bringing her chicks out of the house? Also, is it normal for the coop to have a funny odor after hatching?
well you could peek ever so often if she doesn't mind, all my broodys have let me sneek a peek. or you could wait till you see their little heads peek out from under mama, it's too hard for me to wait so i usually check 2-3 times a day.Okay - I'll bok bok bok to the eggs - it's really fun to watch them move around and listen to them chirp. I wish I could put Smokey inside a glass container with a window so could watch her hatch those eggsBut I guess she wouldn't like that very much.
How will I know when her eggs have hatched? Will I be able to tell by sounds or will I have to look under her for chicks?
