Wow I am amazed at how many people agree with me in beleiving broodies are the way to raise poultry.this thread had really bloomed and help a lot of people, thanks everyone!
Misslydia, I think sophie started laying yesterday... yay! Also I got two new beautiful welsh harlequins that are mating and laying as well. I am going to set some in the incubator and then I am going to let them hatch some if they will. I love watching them and it amazes me how much I enjoy raising poultry. I hope everyone has an awesome day!
Two of my Blue Wheaten Ameraucana pullets have gone broody, they're 29 weeks old and have only been laying for about a month. This is the first time I've had any of my girls go broody! Both of them are sitting on eggs, I know one has at least 4 and the other keeps getting more deposited in her nest by one of my other hens who seems to push her off, lay her egg, and then let the broody get back on the nest. I'm going to have to separate them or mark the eggs or something so that I can take out any fresh ones so the hatch isn't so staggered. I also have 26 eggs in the bator...looks like I'm in for a lot of chicks. (I don't mind!)
Great news Michael and congrats on your Welshies.. you'll soon have ducklings running all over..

I know I would try it. My only reference point on baby ducks is pekins. They are giants....lol
So I can try 4 duck eggs with a bantam?
Anna Karenina just flattened herself out and screamed at me from a top 3 eggs...I can keep hoping right?
