Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

I wouldn't give her wormer, she probably looks pale from sitting 21 days. maybe wait till they are a little older before worming. can you give your girl some extra protein to see if that will boost her.

some canned salmon in water drained would be good or scrambled eggs even the chicks can eat stuff like this as long as they are eating grit.

When Smokey was broody before I gave Smokey and her chicks some scrambled eggs as treats and they loved it.

stony that's lovely how did that come about?
a splash can happen when a blue hen and a blue roo mate. This splash is from an egg from my bantam Sumatra "lil blue", a tiny blue hen. Her man was "x man" a blue Sumatra roo. We lost him last week to a coon, so these others that are his offspring are even more special.

Okay I have an issue .... I will post other appropriate section but figure someone here might have advice!
When my hens were out free ranging this weekend I saw Mole Negro poop and saw a WORM!!!! UGH!!! Poor thing.... I am only 9 months into my chicken adventure and have not wormed my hens... I have a herbal wormer on hand just in case that I had read about and thought I would try if need be .... but obviously if I see a worm there is a big infestation .....

As I have 3 day old chicks in the coop with these hens I worry about them... Obviously the babies can't get wormer ..... so how do I worm my hens??? Any advice??? I really don't want my chicks to get them .... Thanks

PS I forgot to mention that it was a Roundworm... long skinny white thing.

Mine get round worms if they are gonna be on the ground they are going to get them. can you put the waterer up high enough the chicks can't get to it and just give them a smaller waterer just for them? I have used the herbal before but I really didn't take care of it. can't think of another solution sorry.

she is my only adult splash. I have one 2 week old splash and one 2 day old splash. I'm told if I breed my splash hen with a blue roo all of their offspring will either be blue or splash. So you can see where this is going

Did want to say for those who knew about my lil hen Issabelle who sat for 21 days on infertile eggs, has now hatched after 42 days of sitting 2 lil bantam chicks. So proud of her. Will get pics later. The one chick had popped the top off the egg but was still in the bottom half the other was completely out.

let the multiple hatchings commence! but not without tragedy- i had to section the hens away from each other and the main flock- one egg within days of hatching was stepped on- by a hen fighting on the nest, found it afterwords- that makes 2 deaths in the maneuver - so when all is said and done, we have 3 hens on eggs in the process of hatching, all sectioned off, so they can see each other and the babies but the flock can't get to them... a 4th broody keeps getting off so i set her eggs with the other broody, and gave her fresh until she decides...
