Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

i think its 14 days but i do not know anyone else  know

FYI you dont need to repost the same question so many times as most of us check often in the day so you will get an answer eventually. :)

Yes 14 days is okay but it is pushing it. Really a week is a good upper limit, but they could go longer. My pullet eggs I hatched were almost two weeks old.

Thanks bobbiechicks!

You're welcome! And I'm very jealous over your two LF broodies. My recent broodies were both little girls, EE and Silkie. They could only handle about six bantam size eggs each but of course I squeezed as many LF as I could in there too. Only got six silkies hatched between the two of them. They are three weeks old already. :D

Technically up to 14 days if you can keep them cool. But the days after seven though and the hatch rate starts to go down. It would be a good idea to mark the date you collected them in pencil on the egg so you know the oldest and the youngest.

I collected over the course of 14 days and was not able to keep my eggs cool just room temperature. I dont have a broody yet my hen is too young and my Guineas are ..... well Guineas.... My other hens arent laying yet. So I collected two to three eggs from my hen every three days. Those eggs sat in the coop that time. I cant get to my house more than once every two to three days.... LONG story.

I put sixteen eggs twelve Auracana and four Guinea in the incubator some had sat in the coop through 90 degree heat. I had three Guinea eggs hatch. I wasnt expecting anything because of the way I handled them. and the fact that the Auracana is in with very very young roosters. All were pullet eggs too.

Good luck.
can they hatch if they are kelp at room temperature like maybe 75 degrees

I'm excited! I now have a RIR gone broody, too. She's been on the nest all day and was still there tonight. Looks like I'll be moving her tomorrow in with the others. I've been keeping chickens for four years and this is my first year with all these broodies! The BA did go broody last summer, but I took the eggs daily since I had no room -- had some meaties in my extra space. This year there's no meaties taking up the room. I didn't buy any hatchery layer chicks or meaties this year since I had a baby in February. So excited to have broodies hatch me some babies this year. My roo is an EE, so I'll have some interesting babies!

Alright, turkey eggs officially under a team of 4 banty broodies. I had a good hard giggle when the frizzle cochin stole eggs out of my hands, growled at me, the settled down with a look of pure bliss. Poor thing had to settle for just 3 eggs, she couldnt fit any more! Everything settled down after the two co-brooding silkies stole eggs back and forth a couple of times. Broodies are so fun!

Heather, Love the little araucauna!! Can't wait for mine to hatch!!
Thank you Prairie :)
I am sure that she has grown an inch since yesterday lol, unfortunately Molly's other 5 eggs didn't hatch so she only has this one little one, we did an eggtopsy this morning and 4 were bad and the 5th had a little chick that died in the egg :(
I will be back later with updated photo's :)
How long before your Araucana's hatch?
