LOL! Yup I have one sitting, one trying to sit unfertile eggs and building a nest, One that thinks she wants to sit, and one walking around growling everywhere she goes....I took them some grass and nesting material and away they went building a nest lolSomebody needs to let my girls know it's supposed to be contagious!I've got so many eggs right now, I can't get rid of them all. Sheesh.
(I've still got 2 that look like they're thinking about it including my Red Sex Link but they are taking their sweet time committing!
Miss Lizzie was running around in FULL cabbage mode this morning but she lays her egg and off she goes - in full cabbage mode. Clucking all the way.)![]()
Day 13 for Miss Naima, however. Still sitting on 8 eggs.![]()
Quick question for the broody experts. My broody's chicks are a week and a half old. She's had them in the run with all the other chickens since day 2. However, at night, she takes them under the coop rather than into the coop. Although the run is as secure as we can make it, I would feel much better if she'd take them into the coop so I can close the pop door and know they're inside and safe. Each evening as it starts getting dark, she'll hop on the ladder and go into the coop - but the chicks just wander around at the bottom of the ladder until she comes back out. It like she's trying to show them what to do - but they don't get it. She'll do that a few times and then finally lead them under the coop. They are certainly capable of going up the ladder into the coop - they climb all over everything in the run - and the ladder is a solid piece of wood with smaller pieces nailed to it for them to grip with their toes as they climb up. When will she start taking them inside the coop at night?
my broody RIR does a similar thing. Except it is under a tree near the coop instead of under the coop. you need to pick her and the babies up and put them in the coop. After you do this a few times they will get it. I don't care how secure your run is, it isn't secure enough!Quick question for the broody experts. My broody's chicks are a week and a half old.
